Chief Master Sgt. Jason France, Air Force Materiel Command command chief, visited Holloman Air Force Base June 6, 2017, to receive an overview of how the 635th Materiel Maintenance Group Basic Expeditionary Airfield Resources Base supports the entire Air Force enterprise, discuss challenges it faces, and discover ways to advocate for the tenant unit at Holloman.

“I wanted to take the opportunity to come out and visit the Airmen of the Materiel Maintenance Group because I hadn’t had the opportunity to yet, and this is my first time at Holloman,” said France. “Since the organization [AFMC] here was recently realigned, I wanted to take this opportunity to come see what they do and engage with the individual Airmen out here doing great things for us.”

France traveled around BEAR Base receiving briefings from Airmen explaining how civil engineer personnel assigned to BEAR Base are unique and the importance of the capabilities they possess.

“This is a very huge part of the Air Force,” France said. “They’re basically a strategic asset because there is no other organization in the Air Force that does what they do. Our need for this expeditionary capability to meet combatant command requirements is huge. We simply could not do the things that we do when we go out to a BEAR Base environment without this organization.”

France’s visit to Holloman also provided better insight on what personnel at BEAR Base bring to the fight and what they do for the command’s enterprise, as well as the combatant commands.

“My favorite is the engagement with the Airmen that are doing great work,” France said. “The most rewarding part is being able to talk about things and having them show me what it is that they do. I just want to let them know that the leadership at the major command level acknowledges the importance of what it is that they do and thanks them.”

During his visit, France took time to recognize top performing Airmen by coining and thanking them for all the hard work that they do.

“I felt proud to represent my shop,” said Airman 1st Class Tyler Peterson, a 635th Materiel Maintenance Squadron Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning, and Refrigeration technician. “He gave us some good feedback and it was uplifting to receive all the support from him."
