A southern rock explosion by guest performer .38 Special will be among the highlights at this year's Freedom's Call Tattoo slated for June 25. Known for integrating arena and southern rock into its music, the band will perform in a free concert, part of the Air Force Materiel Command's sixth annual Freedom's Call Tattoo.

The military celebration will be held here behind the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force and will include aerial and musical stage events, the popular and enlarged Technology Expo display and one of southwest Ohio's largest fireworks show.

The event is free and open to the public. Gates will open this year at 4 p.m. with .38 Special hitting the stage at approximately 9 p.m.

The band will entertain the crowd for an hour following the Tattoo ceremony and preceding the fireworks show.

This year's Tattoo theme will commemorate veterans from the Korean War, which began June 25, 1950. This year, June 25 marks the 60th anniversary of the war, and part of the tribute for this year's Tattoo will include a flyover of vintage aircraft and music from that era performed by the U.S. Air Force Band of Flight.

Officials are expecting close to 75,000 people to attend this year's event.

"This year's Tattoo promises to be an exciting time. The addition of .38 Special to the existing entertainment line-up will make this an event that's both fun and educational for the family," said Dave Egner, Freedom's Call Tattoo director.

"Hold on Loosely" was .38 Special's first high-charting song in 1981. In 2007, the band opened for Lynyrd Skynyrd. The group also filmed a Country Music Television Crossroads special in 2008 with country singer Trace Adkins.
