Air Force names new AFMC manpower, personnel director

Air Force officials announced Thursday that Senior Executive Service member John Steenbock has been named Air Force Materiel Command director of manpower, personnel and services.

Mr. Steenbock currently serves as AFMC deputy director of manpower, personnel and services.

As director, Mr. Steenbock will serve as the senior official in the force development, management, and sustainment of the command's nearly 80,000 military and civilian professionals located throughout the United States and overseas in research facilities, test sites, universities and at product development, logistics and specialized centers.

He will also work with AFMC senior leadership to shape a dynamic workforce to deliver war-winning expeditionary capabilities and provide oversight, direction and control for all force support activities within the command.

Prior to working at AFMC, Mr. Steenbock was deputy director of the Civilian Force Integration Directorate, Air Force Personnel Center, Randolph AFB, Texas. In this position, he was responsible for integration, force development and force structuring of civilian human resources in all Air Force career fields.

Mr. Steenbock graduated from Washburn University in Topeka, Kan., with a Bachelor's degree in psychology. In 1991, he earned a Master's degree in industrial organization psychology from Kansas State University.

He also earned a degree in strategic studies from Air War College, Maxwell AFB, Ala., in 2003.
