Robins Frontlines: Staff Sgt. Trevallon Penney

  • Robins Public Affairs

Staff Sgt. Trevallon Penney, 461st Operational Support Squadron, Aircrew Flight Equipment Chemical Defense Section, NCOIC, is an irreplaceable member in one of the 461st Operations Group’s most demanding sections. Penney manages the build-up, inspection, and inventory of Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear (CBRN) kits valued at $5.3 million dollars. Additionally, he ensures all aircrew members assigned to the 461st Air Control Wing are outfitted and trained to accomplish their mission in a CBRN environment. The efforts of SSgt Penney directly enable the rapid deployment of the E-8C Joint Surveillance Target Attack Radar System (JSTARS) aircraft to any combat zone in the world at a moment’s notice.

As a result of COVID-19, SSgt Penney accepted the challenge and excels at ensuring 18 of his fellow teammates are taken care of during this unprecedented crisis, while also upholding the Aircrew Flight Equipment “Last To Let You Down” motto. As a result, Penney modified the CBRN training course to allow for the mandated social distancing requirements and trained a total of 96 members over several different periods. With his “can do” attitude and “never fail“ mentality, Penney worked additional shifts in the Flight Line Operations section to cover a critical manning shortage. His efforts led to the generation of 25 sorties and the support of two crew deployments. He also sponsored four inbound tech school Airmen and ensured they were properly transferred to their new duty location, introduced to their duty sections and assigned their Career Development Courses (CDC).

“Staff Sgt. Penney finds ways to make the Airmen around him better and in these uncertain times he sets the standard for his peers and subordinates to follow,” said MSgt Alonzo Jacque, 461st OSS, Aircrew Flight Equipment superintendent. “His service before self-attitude is unmatched and his dedication to duty is unwavering, the Aircrew Flight Equipment Section as well as the 461st OSS is honored to have him, especially during this pandemic.” said Capt Robert Vance 461st OSS, Aircrew Flight Equipment officer.
