HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. –Air Force officials held a recruitment and hiring event in Burlington, Massachusetts, May 23, to fill numerous vacant positions here.

More than 1,000 individuals pre-registered for the chance to meet face-to-face with hiring panels from a wide range of professions located at Hanscom AFB including engineering, technology, finance, law enforcement, childcare, and logistics.

Many candidates applied for positions in program offices within the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center directorates located here.

“Our partnerships with various universities and innovation organizations provide tremendous training opportunities for our workforce that wouldn’t be possible without the ecosystem that exists in this area,” said Tom Fredericks, 66th Air Base Group deputy director and senior site lead for the event.

Fredericks said while employment with the Department of the Air Force offers innumerable professional benefits, he also noted the personal benefits.

“What we do is really meaningful work,” he said. “Our innovation provides warfighters with what they need to succeed. We contribute to something much bigger than ourselves.”

Kathy Watern, AFLCMC executive director, said the Air Force is a great place to begin a career, or start a new one, and no brochure could fully capture the benefits of civilian service.

“I’ve had amazing mentors, supervisors, and leaders who have cared about me and my career and helped get me where I wanted to be professionally,” she said. “If I could get back in line today and do it all over again, I would.”

Over two days, officials conducted more than 300 interviews, and human resource advisors were on-site to facilitate tentative offers to qualified candidates.

Col. Taona Enriquez, 66 ABG and installation commander, specifically noted recruitment and retainment of the workforce as a line of effort in the installation’s strategic plan and emphasized that base organizations will continue to vet applicants.

“It’s crucial to AFLCMC and [the Air Force’s] operational imperatives that we continue to bring in new talent to support our missions now and into the future,” said Vouionette Burns-Harris, Hanscom’s Civilian Personnel chief.
