704th Test Group successfully leading Directed Energy Experimentation Campaign

This is the Raytheon laser dune buggy, a solid-state laser combined with an advanced variant of the company’s Multi-Spectral Targeting System of sensors, installed on a small, all-terrain Polaris militarized vehicle. Coupled with a generator, the HEL weapon system provides military members with counter-UAV capabilities and a virtually unlimited magazine. The Raytheon High Energy Laser Weapon System as mounted on a light tactical vehicle was one of two Directed Energy systems that participated at the October 2018 experimentation event at White Sands Missile Range, New Mexico. The event was held as part of the Directed Energy Experimentation Campaign, which is headed by the 704th Test Group DE Combined Test Force. (U.S. Army photo by Monica K. Guthrie)
