Dr. Mark Mehalic is the Deputy Director for Air, Space, and Cyberspace Operations at Headquarters Air Force Materiel Command, Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. In his position, he is responsible for developmental test and evaluation infrastructure for AFMC, along with enabling cyber-secure integrated multi-domain strategies, governance, and mission assurance to deliver and support agile war-winning capabilities. He is also responsible for the command's flight and test policy, and resource allocation for flight management, airfield services, weather services and command and control operations and plans.
Dr. Mehalic has had two tours with the Air Force Research Laboratory, working various research and development efforts from digital flight control to integrated air battle planning & execution. He was a test engineer with the 3246th Test Wing (forerunner of the 96th Test Wing) at Eglin AFB, Fla, performing electronic warfare effectiveness testing. Dr. Mehalic was an Assistant Professor at the Air Force Institute of Technology, teaching and performing research in the areas of integrated circuit design and communications/electronic warfare. Dr. Mehalic served two tours at HQ Air Force Materiel Command; once in the Test & Evaluation Division, developing T&E policy and managing T&E resources, and the other in the Capabilities and Requirements Division, performing long-range requirements planning for new weapons systems. He also served as the Director of Programs and Resources for U.S. Southern Command, responsible for the programming and execution of all funds. Dr. Mehalic retired from the Air Force as a colonel in 2009 and joined the civil service ranks. He was Director of Engineering & Technical Management, Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center, where he was responsible for scientist & engineer workforce development, test and evaluation policy and processes, engineering policy and technical advice to the Center Commander and Program Executive Officer for Strategic Systems. He then became the Executive and then Vice Director of the Arnold Engineering Development Complex, Arnold AFB Tenn., where he was responsible for ground-based testing of aerospace system.
