Gen. Bruce Carlson, commander, Air Force Materiel Command, named Tinker Air Force Base the AFMC Commander-in-Chief's Installation Excellence Award winner for 2005.

General Carlson also presented Special Recognition awards to 14 AFMC individuals and organizations. AFMC provides the Air Force with war-fighting capabilities on time and on cost. AFMC is headquartered at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio.

Tinker's awards package highlighted the base's "customer first" approach to conducting business; its "bottom to top" communication and team problem solving; its performance during the recent Operational Readiness Inspection; and its cohesive and outstanding individual effort, noting the 39 individual and 22 unit awards received during the contest period.

It also highlighted Tinker's improved work environment and overall quality of life, as well as its safety, compliance, remediation and stewardship to environmental issues.

"I am very proud of the professionalism that AFMC organizations, individuals and teams displayed in managing the AFMC mission," General Carlson wrote in an Oct. 25 message to all AFMC installation commanders. "Congratulations on these outstanding achievements and best wishes in the Air Force competition."

All AFMC winners will now compete in an Air Force-wide competition later this year.
