New Air Force Portal application gets parts to warfighters quicker

Armed with a single user ID, password and valid stock number, logisticians can now get parts into the hands of warfighters quicker by using a new application on the Air Force Portal.

The Enterprise Solution-Supply online tool gives logisticians the ability to find parts stored in any of the more than 300 Air Force depot- or base-level supply accounts with a single query that processes in seconds.

"Before ES-S went online, most logisticians did not have the ability to see assets located in other supply accounts. Those that were authorized still had to query each base supply database individually, a process that took considerably more time, and the parts located at the depots were not visible," said Senior Master Sgt. Peggy Jenkins, superintendent of the Supply Capabilities Branch and a member of the team that developed ES-S at Development and Fielding Systems Group, Operating Location-AD, Maxwell Air Force Base-Gunter Annex, Ala.

"The improved visibility of where assets are and the reduced data latency significantly reduces the amount of time spent locating parts to fill the warfighter's needs," she said. "This translates into shorter customer wait times and optimal usage of available parts. ES-S has an immediate impact on Air Force operations, especially during military operations when having an accurate view of supplies is more critical."

Not only does ES-S save time, it also helps logisticians decide from which account to order a part.

"ES-S shows me which inventories I should draw from first, taking the item from an account that has the item in excess before taking it from an account that may only have half of its required stock on hand," said Rich Lange, a supply systems analyst with Air Mobility Command at Scott Air Force Base, Ill. "ES-S is a great tool. It, along with other supply tools, has opened up all sorts of possibilities for supply people everywhere."

"ES-S can be used to find and order just about any Air Force-managed item ranging from communications gear to aircraft and some vehicle parts," said Sergeant Jenkins. "It can't be used, however, to order medical supplies or munitions because those are not managed in traditional Air Force supply accounts."

To start using ES-S on Air Force Portal, logisticians can click on "Applications" under "Air Force A-Z" on the right side of the homepage and follow the instructions under "ESS-Enterprise Solution-Supply."
