HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is hosting the first virtual Focus Week of 2021 from Jan. 25-29.

Focus week is an opportunity for personnel to complete mandatory and discretionary leadership and acquisition training and earn continuous learning points. Dozens of courses will be available, ranging from career and functional area-specific training and coaching to personal development classes.

“We encourage all AFLCMC employees to keep their skills up to date and continue to take advantage of the many self-development opportunities we have available,” said Jason Sibrel, AFLCMC Focus Week program manager. “We are offering a wide range of course topics, from technical acquisition courses to those in soft skill areas, like leadership and professional growth.”

A few courses on the schedule for acquisition professionals include Business Case Overview for Services Acquisition, Digital Transformation 101, and Cost Estimating for Acquisition Professionals.

Business Case Overview for Services Acquisition provides students with fundamental knowledge of the who, what, when, and why of a business case analysis and the how of applying it to the area of services acquisition. Worth two continuous learning points, according to organizers, this course is ideal for those involved in a business case analysis or anyone interested in learning more about BCAs in a services environment.

In Digital Transformation 101, students will learn what it means for programs to go digital. In this course, instructors will highlight key aspects of the Air Force Digital Campaign, as well as provide deliverables to program and center personnel. During the course, students will also learn about the digital transformation process and how to better understand the specific steps to implementing digital activities in their program. Digital 101 is worth two CLPs.

Cost Estimating for Acquisition Professionals is not a webinar for people trained as cost estimators; rather it is intended for the non-financial program team members interested in learning about how a cost estimate is developed. Designed for program managers, contracting officers, logisticians, engineers, and other non-financial members of an integrated program team, this course is also worth two CLs.

Aside from the functional-area-specific courses, AFLCMC Focus Week offers career and personal development training courses. One example is Leadership: Escaping Our Mind Traps to Thrive in Complexity-Highlighting Work of Dr. Berger and Communication That Connects.

For a civilian or military member interested in a leadership position, this class will address critical leadership issues, like how to see new opportunities, create solutions, and move forward with more finesse and less angst. Worth one CLP, this session discusses the work of Dr. J.G. Berger and her research on leadership and complexity, with a focus on the five most harmful mindtraps of leadership.

Communication That Connects is a briefing intended for civilian or military members who aspire to be, or already are, supervisors. Throughout this course, instructors will demonstrate a variety of ways that ‘communication that connects’ can lead to success. Worth 1.5 CL points, this course is a great way to refresh the soft skills necessary to succeed in any work environment.
