AFLCMC acquisition program manager is the best, by par

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio (AFLCMC) – Some people love golf just for the challenge of the game and others enjoy it for the opportunity to network and build friendships on the course. For AFLCMC Acquisition Program Manager Jeff Scohy, it’s always been about the competition.

“My mom and dad got me into golf at a very young age, around seven years old I guess,” Scohy explains. “I enjoy playing with friends and family, but my favorite part about it is how I’m able to compete. I’m a competitive person and just feel the need to compete at something all the time.”

Scohy is an Air Force Academy graduate and played golf there. He also competed on the All-Air Force team three times while on active duty in 2001, 2004 and 2006. In addition to his civilian job with AFLCMC, he is a Colonel in the U.S. Air Force Reserve.

“Playing for the Air Force was an awesome experience,” adds Scohy. “I had some success, so I got to play on the All-Services team and traveled to Canada and Ireland to play in the Council of International Sports Miltaire (CISM) world golf championships. It’s just a great program for our active-duty personnel and I’m so glad I got to do it.”
Over the years, Scohy has won numerous tournaments with the most recent one being last summer.

“Jeff won the 114th Tony Blom Metropolitan Amateur Championship back on June 24th,” said Matthew Singleton, former Wright-Patterson PGA Professional and friend of Scohy. “This is a Greater Cincinnati Golf Association event. It is a six-day tournament that begins with a 36-hole, individual stroke play qualifier followed by a 64-person, individual match play bracket.”

Singleton met Scohy more than 20 years ago when he was an assistant pro at Wright-Patt.

“It didn’t take long for me to realize he was on a different level,” Singleton said. “Over the years, I have seen many good players come and go, but no one like Jeff. He continues to have a positive impact on Wright-Patt and Dayton golf.”

Some of Scohy’s biggest wins include the 2010 Miami Valley Metropolitan Championship, 2015 Ohio Mid-Amateur Championship and the 2023 Tony Blom Greater Cincinnati Metropolitan Championship. He has also won the U.S. Air Force Championships twice, the U.S. Armed Services Championships three times and the Miami Valley Golf Association Match Play Championship and the Miami Valley Golf Association Mid-Amateur Championship three times. He has qualified for the United States Golf Association (USGA) Championships 13 times.

“I also made the U.S. Open Sectional three times which means I made it out of local qualifying and to the second stage but didn’t make the U.S. Open,” Scohy adds proudly.

Family, work, golf and friends take up time, but Scohy just tries to practice balance.

“It’s a balancing act for sure,” he said. “I’m grateful to my wife Khristian and my two kids Taylor and CJ for supporting me. I basically save most of my leave for the summertime to play and coach golf. CJ is now a scratch golfer as well and plays and competes in local, state, and national tournaments. It’s a special bond that we share and I love getting out to play with him as much as I can.”

If you are interested in taking up golf, Scohy has some simple advice:

“Start with lessons from a local PGA professional. Do not just go out on the course and start playing or you might be miserable. Get some fundamentals down and hit the range and putting green for a while before going on the course. This will allow you to improve much faster and have more fun!”
