ESC Change of Command set Published Aug. 4, 2011 By Chuck Paone 66th Air Base Group Public Affairs HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. -- Maj. Gen. Charles Davis, who will be promoted to lieutenant general in a ceremony earlier in the day, will take command of the Electronic Systems Center here Sept. 1 at 1 p.m. in the Hanscom Aero Club Hangar. Lt. Gen. Ted Bowlds, who has commanded the center for nearly four years, will relinquish command at the ceremony. A retirement ceremony for General Bowlds will follow immediately. The commander of Air Force Materiel Command, Gen. Donald Hoffman, will officiate the promotion, change of command and retirement ceremonies. The afternoon will also feature a welcome reception for General Davis. General Davis currently commands the Air Armament Center and is the Air Force Program Executive Officer for Weapons at Eglin AFB, Fla. Prior to joining the Air Armament Center, General Davis was PEO for the F-35 Lightning II Program Office. He is an experimental test pilot with 3,300 flying hours in more than 35 types of aircraft. In addition to his stint commanding ESC and serving as PEO for the Air Force's Command and Control and Combat Support portfolio, General Bowlds previously served as commander of the Air Force Research Laboratory, Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. In earlier assignments, he served as a flight test engineer on the F-117, worked as avionics program manager on the B-2, and served as bomber branch chief at the Pentagon, as chief of Advance Medium Range Air-to-Air Missile development in the AMRAAM System Program Office, and as commander of the Rome Laboratory in Rome, N.Y.
