Kirtland AFB wins Air Force lodging award Published Nov. 10, 2009 By Susan Burritt Kirtland AFB Nucleus KIRTLAND AIR FORCE BASE, New Mexico -- For the second year in a row and the third time overall, the lodging facilities here have won the Air Force Innkeeper Award for the large base category. Besides last year, Kirtland AFB Lodging also won the award in 2005. The competitors are evaluated using a lengthy checklist covering a variety of aspects, including customer service, housekeeping, financial and facility management, services and related support activities. Col. Michael Duvall, 377th Air Base Wing commander, sent this message: "A hearty congratulations to Col. (Matthew) Bartlett (377th Mission Support Group commander), Mr. (Rickey) Harness ( 377th Force Support Squadron director) and especially Mr. Steve Holland (Kirtland Inn Lodging general manager) and the outstanding Lodging team." He continued, "For the second year in a row, they are the best in the AF. Congratulations to Lodging -- a true team of professionals." The consecutive wins officially remove Kirtland AFB from competing for the award for the next two years. They will be eligible to compete again in 2012. Several members of Kirtland lodging facilities will be traveling to New York City in November to accept the award at the annual International Hotel/Motel and Restaurant Show in November.
