WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – For acquisition professionals interested in learning more about Congress, the budgetary process and where the Air Force fits in, the Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is hosting a training event designed to provide a behind-the-scenes view of the legislative branch and federal policy.

The highly anticipated event will be held on July 1, 2019 at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, and will feature Nancy Dolan, Deputy Director, Legislative Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Air Force and Melissa Blakesly, Acting Director of the Air Force’s Office of Financial Management and Comptroller, Budget & Appropriations Liaison.  In addition, Tamara Hawes, AFLCMC legislative liaison and former congressional staff member will speak to attendees.

The discussion will cover topics such as the ‘Role of the Air Force in the Congressional Budgeting Process,’ ‘Authorizations versus Appropriations,’ ‘Rules of Engagement (for interacting with Congressional Staff),’ and ‘Current Air Force Issues.’

“Congress allocates the money the Air Force receives to execute the mission and I think it’s important folks know the process and how their job fits in it,” said Kathy Watern, AFLCMC Executive Director. “The training will increase the level of knowledge about Congress and the budget as well as provide useful information to attendees who may have jobs that require them to engage with members of Congress and their staffs.”

Both sessions will be held at the Air Force Institute of Technology in Bane Auditorium (Bldg. 640).  The morning session starts at 10:00 a.m. and lasts until 11:30 a.m.  The afternoon session will be held at 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. The presentations and panel discussions will be posted on YouTube following the event at this link:
