WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio Did you know from 2008 to 2030, world energy consumption is expected to increase more than 55%? Everyone can take responsibility for saving energy every day in many different ways such as:  keeping windows tightly shut at work and at home throughout the year, turning out the lights when leaving a room, and using LED lights when possible.

Other ways or actions that you can take to save energy are:

  • Recycling everything that we use on a daily basis and pay attention to signs and put your recycling material in the correct bins.
  • During the winter, use solar heat whenever possible by opening mini-blinds and curtains to the east in the morning and to the south all day. Open window coverings to the west in the afternoon to capture the heat coming in. During the hot summer months do the opposite to block the hot sun from coming into your workplace and home.
  • Turn the thermostat down to 60 degrees when sleeping or at work.  Keep the thermostat at 68 when you are at home during daylight hours.
  • Turn off your copiers, shredders and monitors when you go home at the end of your workday.
  • Carpool with people in your area and keep many cars off of the road.  The benefits to carpooling are many: lowering wear and tear on your tires and car engines and saves gasoline cost and cuts down on air pollution.
  • We must remember how energy needs always need to be a primary consideration.
