HILL AIR FORCE BASE, Utah -- As the base and surrounding communities continue to reopen some facilities and services that were closed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the installation commander is urging base personnel and families to stay vigilant when it comes to wearing face coverings.
"This is not a time to let our guard down slowing the spread of the COVID-19 disease," said Col. Jon Eberlan, 75th Air Base Wing commander. “Wearing face coverings are an important part of our infection control strategy to help prevent the spread and should be worn whether you’re on or off base.”
The push to wear a mask outside of the work center comes after Utah reported a large rise in its confirmed COVID-19 cases over the past week. The state has reported more than 12,000 cases since the outbreak began.
People are currently required to wear face coverings in public areas and work centers on base when six-feet of physical distance cannot be maintained. In addition, many buildings require face coverings to be worn while in the facility regardless of social distancing.
Other mitigation measures across the base include telework, disinfection plans, and strict hygiene such as no hand-shaking, frequent hand washing, and cleaning of common-use items.
“We all have a responsibility to do things that can limit the spread of this disease,” Eberlan said. “Stay home if you’re sick, maintain good hygiene, practice social distancing, and when you can’t, wear a mask.”
