Personal protective equipment available upon request

When COVID-19 struck Team Eglin, the 96th Logistics Readiness Squadron found a solution for the base’s personal protective equipment needs.

A COVID-19 procurement cell began in April at Luke’s Place to support the base’s protection efforts against the coronavirus.

As Eglin’s central procurement and distribution point, the CPC’s PPE inventory includes cloth masks, hand sanitizer, paper towels, disinfectant wipes, bleach, disinfectant sprays, gloves and thermometers.

“When the virus struck, it was difficult for units to find PPE,” said Paula Jackson, procurement cell co-lead.  “We decided to gather and distribute the hard-to-get PPE Team Eglin members needed to protect themselves.”

To get the equipment, units must complete a CPC item request form they can get at the cell or by email.  Then supplies are gathered and the requestor receives a notification the supplies are ready curbside at Luke’s Place.

Kevin Partlow, 96th LRS deputy commander, said the CPC alleviates problems base personnel may have in purchasing hard-to-get PPE.

“Our squadron took a shortfall that was felt across the installation and turned it into an opportunity to help protect those around us,” he said.

The CPC provided PPE to Hurlburt Field and Naval Air Station Pensacola’s Blue Angels, according to Jackson.

Squadron leadership shared the CPC blueprint with other Air Force commands, who have already integrated it in their mission readiness plans, according to Partlow.
