HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – The Air Force Life Cycle Management Center is hosting its quarterly Focus Week virtually from Oct. 26-30.
Focus week is an opportunity for personnel to complete mandatory and discretionary leadership and acquisition training and earn continuous learning points. Dozens of courses will be available, ranging from career- and functional area-specific training and coaching to personal development classes.
“All of our courses have a distance-learning option and are open to members of the AFLCMC workforce, regardless of their duty location,” said Jason Sibrel, AFLCMC Focus Week program manager. “The workforce should be mindful that as they register, it is really important to pay attention to course requirements, as some of the courses are new to the virtual-learning environment and may be offered in a variety of platforms.”
Platforms include teleconferences, Defense Collaboration Services, and CVR Teams.
A few courses on the schedule for acquisition professionals include Risk in the Adaptive Acquisition Framework, Acquisition Security: Program Protection Planning, and Other Transaction Agreements.
In Risk in the Adaptive Acquisition Framework, enrollees learn how life cycle risk management is applied to the AAF with reference to the four core values and 12 components of the Agile Manifesto. This course is intended for program managers, engineers, contracting officers, logisticians, and sustainers and worth one continuous learning point.
Acquisition Security: Program Protection Planning is a snapshot of current Program Protection Planning objectives, concerns, and tasks necessary to identify and protect critical program information and mission-critical components, as well assist in the development of the Program Protection Plan. Acquisition Security: Program Protection Planning is worth three continuous learning points.
Other Transaction Agreements are increasingly popular for use with prototype, research, and experimental projects. In this course, participants can expect to take a deep-dive into all things OTA by learning about the different types of OTAs, as well the risks and benefits associated with using them. This course is geared to all acquisition functionals and worth one continuous learning point.
Aside from the functional-area specific courses, Focus Week will feature a number of career and personal development training courses. Two examples of these are Marketing Yourself and Your Career and Effective Delegation.
Marketing Yourself and Your Career is a workshop for participants thinking about their “brand” – the first thing people think of when they hear your name – and how to utilize that brand to achieve personal and career success. Targeted to the entire AFLCMC workforce, this workshop includes an exercise, discussion, and tips on building your “brand.”
Effective Delegation is a briefing intended for current and aspiring supervisors. Knowing that one person cannot do it all, it is important to understand when, what, how, and who to delegate assignments to. This course provides lessons on the problems associated with delegation, and it is a great way to get started on your path to being a successful supervisor.
