Hanscom SC accelerates change through mission enhancement

HANSCOM AIR FORCE BASE, Mass. – Specialists from the Hanscom Communications and Information Division, or SC, are supporting the “AFMC We Need” initiative by improving business practices.

The division is focused on aiding Airmen-driven enhancement, process improvement and innovation that leaders say was put into hyper-speed because of COVID-19, placing SC at the forefront of the Air Force’s ability to adapt.

“It’s been a great partnership between our base-level operations and [the Command, Control, Communications, Intelligence and Networks Directorate] professionals to support initiatives for a better end-user experience on the Air Force network,” said William Ross, SC director.

In addition to increased network capability, SC is working to improve cellular service and commercial internet connections across the installation to further propel Hanscom’s mission effectiveness. Internally, the team is updating and refining their portfolios to streamline their customer service capabilities.

“The expectation is that every person who comes onto the base to work will have wireless access,” said Sanjeeb Khanal, SC chief of operations.

Following the success of the robotic process automation bots at the 66th Security Forces Squadron earlier this year, the Division is exploring more options to deliver “robotic Airmen” to the workforce and continue reshaping standard operating procedures.

The key forces driving SC’s charge have been two-fold, Khanal said: COVID-19 provided the demand, and “AFMC We Need” has continually provided the support to keep them moving in that direction.

“We’re changing culturally how we operate,” he said. “We are more flexible and efficient in being able to do our jobs from anywhere.”
