WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio -- In an effort to help the U.S. Air Force more efficiently manage records, the Business and Enterprise Systems Directorate’s Air Force Records Information Management System (AFRIMS) team produced an updated web-based application that enables over 20,000 records professionals across the Air Force to efficiently meet the critical records management mission.

The AFRIMS application was rewritten in its entirety in Java, eliminating dependency on the existing Adobe ColdFusion code and associated libraries and therefore eliminating security issues with the aging ColdFusion code base.  Cost benefits were also achieved by eliminating the annual ColdFusion subscription cost.
The AFRIMS application utilizes a modern User Interface (UI) which replaces a previous UI that was based upon 20 year old web standards.  The current application supports Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge.  Among many improvements, records searches were integrated into list views (rather than separate pages) which eliminates users having to go back and forth between records searches that consists of multiple pages.

Additionally, the AFRIMS application has been hosted in Cloud One/AWS Gov Cloud since September 2018, substantially reducing hosting costs while enabling virtual server dynamics that expands platform resources as user demand increases.

“Thanks for all the efforts in updating and improving the new AFRIMS,” said Master Sgt. Christopher W. Petry, 175th Wing Base Records Manager, echoing the sentiment of the Air Force records management community world-wide.
