Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass. -- A civilian 66th Security Forces Squadron defender here has been named the John Awtrey Annual Law Enforcement Peace Officers Standards and Training Commission Award winner.
The POST Commission Award is presented to a Department of Defense law enforcement employee whose efforts greatly contributed to the DOD law enforcement mission at the national, state, regional, or local level.
Corporal Isaac Rosales was recognized for his exceptional contributions to the DOD law enforcement program through his duties as the 66 SFS unit training manager.
“I know there had to be a lot of well-deserving officers up for this award, so it’s an incredible honor to have been selected,” said Rosales.
Rosales started his career in law enforcement when he was still in high school, interning for the local sheriff’s department in his native California.
“Growing up, I saw law enforcement officers as role models, and I wanted to do what they did – help other people,” he said.
After graduating, he enlisted in the Air Force as a security forces Airman to pursue real-world experience in the field. Though he eventually separated from active duty, he continued his career as an officer in California before coming to Hanscom AFB in 2019.
Here Rosales leads the squadron’s training program by developing and maintaining annual training plans for assigned officers, and finds innovative ways to make trainings more effective.
According to the award citation, Rosales has led Shoot, Move, and Communicate trainings, active-shooter response courses, Tactical Combat Casualty Care certification courses, and invigorated the squadron’s augmentee program.
Rosales also led a team of defenders who tested and evaluated a Street Smarts Virtual Reality system, a new platform for Security Forces-wide implementation, that has gone on to impact more than 36,000 military police officers worldwide.
“I feel a deep-seeded obligation to pass on what I’ve learned, because I know this information could save someone’s life,” said Rosales. “It’s a great feeling to help people, and other officers, and see the results of our accomplishments on a daily basis.”
Rosales credits his accomplishments to the support and equal commitment to readiness of his wingmen and leaders.
“Officer Rosales ensures our Hanscom defenders are ready for any fight, at any time,” wrote Maj. Brandon Casso, 66 SFS commander in a message to his squadron. “He is the living image of what it means to be a model Law Enforcement Officer and embodies what it means to be a Blue Knight every day.”
Rosales’s efforts earned him recognition as the 66th Air Base Group’s 2022 Category I Civilian of the Year, and more recently he received the John L. Levitow Award during his graduation from the Hanscom Airman Leadership School.
Rosales will be recognized at the Pentagon during Police Week, where he will formally be presented the award by senior Air Force security forces defenders.
