EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla. -- The 96th Aircraft Maintenance Squadron held its second quarter weapons load competition here July 28. The fast-paced, timed competition tests the knowledge and proficiency of the Airmen in arming F-15 and F-16 aircraft.
Before the weapons load competition started, the squadron’s Air Force Operations Competition team held its first bomb building event. The 10-member team assembled GBU-38s to showcase their knowledge from all skill levels within the munitions career field, while acquiring more hands-on training.
“This event gave us the opportunity to prepare for and represent the MAJCOM at the Air Force level, and emboldened an already close-knit ammunitions community,” said Chief Master Sgt. Christopher August, 96th Test Wing Weapons Manager. “Showcasing the team's talent and perfecting their craft in front of the Wing only increases their ability to handle the pressure at the next level.”
August said the AFOCOMP team’s positive impact was felt across the maintenance group.
“The esprit-de-corps and camaraderie of the three units was brought to life in competition and interdependency,” he said. “Our Ammo family builds and delivers lethal kinetic capability to the weapons loader to pair with our air-dominance platforms. Safe, reliable, proficient and without fail.”
