A new flexible workspace will allow the 309th Aircraft Maintenance Group to continue F-16 aircraft maintenance while Hangar 225 undergoes much needed renovations.

Maintainers will use a Tactical Aircraft Maintenance Structure, a 110,000-square-foot facility built specifically to allow uninterrupted maintenance on F-16 aircraft while Hangar 225’s 24 F-16 repair docks are vacated during renovation.

Construction on TAMS began in April 2022 and was built on existing airfield pavement. By leveraging the existing airfield pavement, costs were minimized, and the project was able to be completed in just 20 months. The end result is a new $53 million state-of-the-art hangar facility.

The 309th AMXG began using TAMS in November 2023 and currently has F-16s in the facility undergoing maintenance and repair. TAMS will continue to play a role in supporting depot maintenance even after phase 2 renovations on Hangar 225 are finished in summer 2025.

Hangar 225 is an 82-year-old structure built during World War II and currently a hub for F-16 aircraft maintenance. Renovations to the hangar were needed in order to bring the facility up to current building codes, ensuring safety and energy efficiency.

TAMS is part of the Ogden Air Logistics Complex investment strategy to update depot facilities in support of the Department of Defense’s larger effort to modernize the organic industrial base.
