The 88th Medical Group has been awarded the 2016 Mid-year Commission on Cancer’s Outstanding Achievement Award by the American College of Surgeons for surveys performed Jan. 1 to June 30, 2016.

This award exhibits cancer programs that strive for excellence in providing quality care to cancer patients. The 88th MDG cancer program was evaluated on 34 program standards categorized within five cancer program activity areas: cancer committee leadership, cancer data management, clinical services, patient outcomes, and data quality.

The cancer program was further evaluated on seven commendation standards. To be eligible, all award recipients must have received commendation ratings in all seven standards in addition to receiving a compliance rating for each of the 27 other standards.

“This award recognizes cancer programs that are the best of the best in the care they deliver to their cancer patient population,” said Lt. Col. Roger Wood, 88th MDG cancer care director. “Hospitals that are recognized with this award are recognized as benchmark programs by other facilities for the purpose of sharing best practices and to motivate programs to improve their level of quality cancer care.”

The 88th MDG cancer program not only met the required standards but excelled in the areas of commendation-eligible standards. The effort and commitment by the clinical and administrative staff received accolades for providing high quality cancer care to their patients and in meeting and exceeding the standards set by the Commission on Cancer Accreditation Program.

“This award recognizes Wright-Patterson Medical Center's ongoing commitment to provide outstanding medical care to our cancer patient population -- encompassing services spanning cancer prevention and surveillance, through diagnosis and treatment and eventual survivorship,” Wood said. "I am proud to be a part of this groundbreaking team providing this level of superb care!"
