An Edwards Air Force Base C-17 Globemaster III takes off Aug. 27, 2010, to conduct a flight test to see how it performs with a combination of synthetic and biofuels. The aircraft was powered by 50 percent traditional JP-8, 25 percent hydro-treated renewable jet fuel derived from animal fat and 25 percent synthetic Fischer–Tropsch fuel derived from coal.
