Disc diver

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio - Brian Peterson goes horizontal for a disc during an Ultimate Frisbee practice here April 4. Ultimate Frisbee combines the non-stop movement and athletic endurance of soccer with the aerial passing and catching skills of football. Two squads, each consisting of seven players, compete using a high-tech plastic disc on a football-size field. The object is to score by catching a pass in the opponent's end zone. A player must stop running while in possession of the disc but may pivot and pass to any of the other receivers on the field. Players move quickly from offense to defense on turnovers that occur with a dropped pass, an interception, a pass out of bounds or when a player is caught holding the disc for more than 10 seconds. Challenges are governed by "The Spirit of the Game." Founded in 1968, Ultimate Frisbee is played in more than 42 countries by all ages and both genders. (Air Force photo by Spencer P. Lane)
