Gen. Samuel Phillips
Gen. Samuel Phillips provided expert guidance to NASA teams during the early days of space exploration. Phillips received numerous awards, throughout his illustrious career including the Distinguished Flying Cross, the French Croix de Guerre, the Legion of Merit, the Air Force Distinguished Service Medal and the Distinguished Service Medal from NASA. Phillips passed away on January 31, 1990 at the age of 68 and was buried with honors at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
