For uniformed AFLCMC HQ airmen, weekly PT is about more than just fitness

WRIGHT-PATTERSON AFB, Ohio (AFLCMC) — In an effort to forge camaraderie and ensure mission readiness, uniformed members who work at headquarters Air Force Life Cycle Management Center (AFLCMC) meet each Friday for weekly physical training (PT) as a unit.

The Airmen gather each Friday morning for a pre-determined activity. There’s individual activities like running or group sports like kickball. AFLCMC Section Commander Lt. Col. Jessica Kashka organized the PT after she saw a need for increased fitness around AFLCMC.

“After 2.5-3 years of teleworking and going through COVID, we started to lose some of our leaning forward posture that we like to have in terms of readiness,” Kashka explains. “We want to encourage the Airmen to choose healthy habits.”

The PT effort also also ties into the guidelines for new body composition for fitness. Plus the group sweat sessions create a forum to strengthen the team and increase morale.

Civilians are also welcome and encouraged to participate.

“It’s motivating to see my leadership out there working with us,” adds 1st Lt. Krystian Swain, Executive Officer to the AFLCMC Director of Staff. “They work hard and it makes me want to work harder.”

The weekly Unit PT has served as a way to connect people across the building in different jobs and ranks, too.

“What’s crazy is we all sit in the same building and there are people who come up to me and say ‘Oh my gosh! I didn’t know that so-and-so was working in the same building!’” laughs Kashka.

AFLCMC Headquarters Unit PT will continue into the foreseeable future to ensure maximum readiness and team cohesion.
