The Bosnian War was a long and bloody conflict that ended the lives of 100,000 and impacted the lives of millions. It was the bloodiest war in Europe since World War II.

Thirty years ago, that war ended, not in the Balkans, but across the world in Dayton, Ohio at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. Nine delegations talked for 20 days, and it took thousands of military and civilian facilitators to host it successfully.

Thanks to the men and women of Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio these delegates, diplomats, and leaders had the resources, space, and time necessary to make peace happen. When the treaty was officially signed in Elysee Palace, France Dec. 14, 1995, it was named the “Dayton Peace Accords” to honor Dayton and Wright-Patterson AFB’s role in the negotiations.

Take a look back behind the scenes of the Dayton Peace Accords at Wright-Patterson AFB.
