The skills they will acquire through these courses will continue to benefit not only Air Force Materiel Command, but the United States Air Force,” said Lorna B. Estep, AFMC Executive Director, in a congratulatory note. The Civilian Development portfolio consists of educational courses and training designed to meet the developmental needs of the civilian workforce at all levels. Individuals can acquire associate through advanced college degrees at military and academic institutions, attend military professional education programs, embark on fellowships with think tanks or industry, partake in a scientist or engineer exchange program or participate in several other professional development opportunities. AFMC civilians submitted more than 1,600 applications, comprising more than 36% of the 4,400 total Department of the Air Force bids for the competitive development allocations. With 658 selectees, AFMC civilians make up more than 46% of the total 1,548 department civilians selected for opportunities program wide. “Our AFMC civilian workforce continues to excel at a high level, and the large number of selectees for Civilian Development programs demonstrates the high caliber and professional potential of our team,” said Monique Allshouse, AFMC program coordinator. “We are extremely proud of the results and look forward to seeing our civilian Airmen grow through these programs.” Applications for boarded programs such as Air War College, the Department of Defense Executive Leadership Development Program, the White House Leadership Development Program and more were reviewed by a cadre of Senior Executive Staff and general officers. Individual Career Field Teams review applications and place candidates in programs such as Education with Industry, the Civilian Leadership Course, the Civilian Associate Degree Program and more. The goal of Civilian Development is to cultivate a culture of continuous learning which ensure civilians can excel in their current positions and gain leadership skills for the future.
